'Moving beyond patriarchy' with Sr. Schneiders

On Valentine’s Day weekend, FutureChurch will hold a free teleconference titled, “Moving beyond patriarchy.”

Sr. Sandra Schneiders, professor emeritus of New Testament Studies and Christian Spirituality at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, Calif., is the scheduled presenter from 3 to 4 p.m. EST Feb. 15. The teleconference participants will explore patriarchy through the lens of “scriptural interpretation and its influence on the structure and practices of the church.” The group will also learn about “feminist biblical scholarship in interpreting the Word of God.”

Some of Schneiders publications include Women and the Word: The Gender of God in the New Testament and the Spirituality of WomenBeyond PatchingFaith and Feminism in the Catholic Church; and With Oil in Their Lamps: Faith, Feminism, and the Future.

FutureChurch is a Catholic organization promoting the values of Vatican II. Its membership consists of both lay and religious men and women.
