This is a part-time position approximately 20 hours per week.
Salary Range: $21,000 to $34,000 per year, depending on experience

To live out your gospel vocation and to enthusiastially support and encourage people to live out their Christian vocation and participate in the mission of Spirit of Grace Church, with an expectation of approximately 20 hours per week.  This ministerial role is expansive.  It is hoped that candidates for this position experience the job description that follows as an exciting invitation to exercise their gifts and talents to the fullest.  As well, this position offers opportunities to develop ministry skills that may remain yet to be developed or discovered.  We welcome candidates who are attracted to multiple elements of this call, recognizing that we are all on a path of learning and growing into our vocation.

To serve God
Support the vision, mission, and policies of Spirit of Grace
Lead actively in ecumenical and interfaith relationships
Strive to maintain open communication
Develop a trusting relationship with community and staff members
Offer mutual support and encouragement to the staff and lay leadership
Strive to empower the people of the congregation to teach and support the work of the church
Journey with us as we seek clarity and direction for our mission
Help members to understand and act upon issues of social justice
Set a healthy example for the congregation – serve faithfully each week and faithfully take time for self and family
Worship – share in leading, developing, and coordinating worship services
In worship, celebrate experiences around the Word, including a reflection (homily) and opening prayer monthly
Collaborate with clergy as opportunities for shared ministry arise
Pastoral care – including visiting the sick, nurturing members in need, and welcoming new members
Empower lay members to lead the final Sunday and other worship services
Education – in partnership with the Lutheran pastor and lay leaders, facilitate:
Adult educational opportunities
Sunday School programming  and preparation for receiving sacraments
Youth groups for middle and high school children
Community members embracing educational opportunities/leadership
Teaching and guidance concerning the roots and traditions of the Catholic Church

Provide leadership, vision, and recruiting to support the work of ministry committees
Be a point of contact with the larger Catholic community
Aid in the development of lay leaders
Participate actively in the shared leadership of the community, as a member of the Steering Team, in staff meetings, and in facilitating community forums
Support the Office Administrator in managing the use, maintenance, and general upkeep of the building and grounds
Assist Office Administrator in prioritizing tasks
Provide timely correspondence in response to incoming mail, email, and voicemail

Community Outreach – Outreach to and with the Portland metropolitan area, including work on ministry teams connected with the Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Ongoing Adaptation – Our ministry at Spirit of Grace is a team ministry. The Steering Team, in consultation with church leaders, may ask the Director of Catholic Ministries to take on additional or different areas of responsibility depending onchanging circumstances.  The DCM would have a key voice in such decisions.

Practicing Catholic
Advanced degree in theology (e.g., M. Div., Th.M, M.A.T.) preferred
Strong grounding in the history and theology of the Catholic church
Interpersonal skills necessary to serve as part of a staff team
Confidence and calling in giving reflections (homilies)
Experience in pastoral leadership
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Tech-savvy in the age of COVID-19 – capacity to cultivate a strong online leadership presence
Knowledge of child development and education
Commitment to social justice, with the ability to ground it in Catholic Social Teaching
Ability to support our congregation to be inclusive, authentic, and justice-seeking
Ability to write reflection pieces that nourish the spirituality of the community
Demonstrate understanding of how sacraments are at the heart of the church community
