Director of Discernment Ministry/Vocation Coordinator

 

The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement is currently seeking a Director of Discernment Ministry for Youth/Young Adults-Vocation Coordinator. Reports to the Minister General and Council.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

“To discern” means to separate, to distinguish, to shift.  Discernment is a journey and a process lived through relationships.  It is a time of listening and reflecting on where God is calling us.  It requires that we become good listeners, not only to God but to others who walk with us along the journey of faith.  This program we are implementing is based on “listening love” which is in a relationship with God and with the Friars guided by a leader who promotes:
On-site and off-site Retreats;
A “discernment band” to visit our ministries or schools/entities which invite us;
Scriptural and religious educational courses;
Regular prayer including: Ecumenical, inter-religious, Atonement devotional;
Evenings of discernment, local and community wide;
“Do you love me”? “Feed my sheep” and social justice activities;
Web and print communication and publicity as it relates to this office;
Fundraising efforts to help offset the costs of ministry trips and events;
Methods to insure fiscal stability and responsibility for the program;
Regular reviews to assure the program is relevant to men in discernment;
The requirements for a Safe Environment in all activities, especially where minors or vulnerable adults are present;
Facilitate, recruit and coordinate vocations.

 

JOB SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrate ease in dealing with people, problems and crises; excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate emotional stability and self-confidence.
Demonstrate positive rapport with youth and/or young adults exhibiting a mature nature in collaborative behavior.
Awareness and sensitivity in multi-cultural environments, relating respectfully with a diversity of persons, age groups and cultures.
Demonstrate commitment to personal life-long faith formation, continuing education, personal and professional growth.
Maintains strictest confidentiality in accord with Safe Environment mandates and the highest standard in professional ethics.
Lives and models the Catholic faith and conducts one’s life in accord with Catholic moral beliefs.
Demonstrates experience working with youth/young adults in a retreat setting.
Demonstrates successful leadership/management experience to include volunteer recruitment and management.
Strong organizational skills, necessary to manage multiple projects and programs on an ongoing basis.
Demonstrates experience in planning and organizing events.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and in other computer programs to prepare promotional materials such as brochures and newsletters.
Awareness and sensitivity in multi-cultural environments, relating respectfully with a diversity of persons, age groups and cultures.
Demonstrated commitment to personal life-long faith formation, personal and professional growth.
Recruitment experience, computer, organizational and social media literacy is required.
Some theological education and pastoral experience, with prior vocational experience preferred.

 

OTHER ELEMENTS:

Commitment to the mission and values of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement.
Strong demonstrated competence in public relations skills.
Strong written and verbal communications skills including the ability to conduct presentations and training programs.
Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
Ability to provide own transportation and must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria: practicing Catholic; a degree in Theology or related field; knowledge, skills and abilities obtained through personal experience in a youth/young adult ministry or equivalent; broad knowledge of catechetical issues; ability to travel regionally/internationally.
