WASHINGTON -- Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Fr. Thomas A. Daly, who is vocations director for the San Francisco Archdiocese and a high school president, to be an auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of San Jose, Calif.

The appointment was announced in Washington March 16 by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
