Something nice: During the summer of 2019, the bishop of El Paso, Texas, decided his diocese would open a fund to help a growing number of immigrants piling into shelters on the other side of the U.S. border in the sister city of Ciudad Juarez in Mexico.

At their fall plenary, German prelates offered strong, opposing opinions as they discussed the synodal way — a future roundtable between the bishops and Germany's largest lay organization.

The good fight: Women religious brought to the Talitha Kum gathering their strategies, struggles and successes. GSR heard from sisters on the ground, working against human trafficking on six continents.

The Pan-Amazon Ecclesial Network (REPAM) viewed Laudato Si', and in particular its section on integral ecology, as confirmation of their work and has helped shape the upcoming Synod of Bishops focused on the Amazon region, its peoples and ecological significance.
