The Good Neighbor

Pencil Preaching for Monday, October 7, 2019

“Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” (Luke 10:37).

In lieu of my own reflection on today’s Gospel on the Parable of the Good Samaritan, I invite readers to watch a short (20 minutes) video of the commencement address delivered in 2001 at Marquette University by the late Fred Rogers, the creator and host for over 30 years of the PBS program for children, “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

What kind of world would we have if it were a true neighborhood filled with people who cared about each other and prized each other for being just who they are?
