Otto Charles Schmidt

Otto Charles Schmidt entered the gates of heaven on February 19, 2026, at the age of 100 after a short illness. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 5, 1925, to parents Rupert Schmidt and Anna Csavojez-Schmidt. He was one of eight brothers and sisters who grew up in a loving household.

Otto attended Guardian Angel Catholic School and Westport High School in Kansas City. He honorably served in the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, during World War II. After the war, Otto married Betty Nelson of Alma, Kansas on August 5, 1950. Otto and Betty relocated to Sacramento, California in the late 1950s and they remained married until Betty’s death in 1985.

Otto’s career included many years at Wismer & Becker Contracting Engineers in Sacramento where he was a materials buyer.

Otto was an avid golfer who played weekly in his younger years. Fishing and gold dredging were other hobbies of his. He also enjoyed family gatherings. He will be missed by family for his kindness and sense of humor.

Otto is pre-deceased by his parents, sisters Mary and Fran, and brothers Robert, Rudy, and Eugene. He leaves behind his sister Ann of Olathe, Kansas, and brother Edward of Folsom, California, along with many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank Otto’s nephew, Steve Schmidt and his wife Victoria for all of their support in Otto’s later years.
