Part Time Priest - Sacramental Minster

The Adrian Dominican Sisters, a Congregation of vowed women religious, are seeking a Priest Sacramental Minister for their Dominican Life Center, which is a Continuum of Care Retirement Community located on the Motherhouse campus in Adrian, Michigan. This position supports the efforts of the Liturgical Ministries Department by providing collaboration in the planning and celebration of daily liturgy including Liturgy of the Eucharist, Sacraments of Healing, Funerals and special prayer services. The candidate must be an ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing, possess well developed liturgical/pastoral and communication skills with a collaborative spirit.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Presides at daily and Sunday Eucharist and, upon request, at special Congregation celebrations (e.g., Dominican Feasts, especially the Feasts of St. Dominic, St. Catherine, and Holy Rosary; Jubilees; General Chapter; professions; events, etc.).
  • Presides at communal celebrations of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. (Available for individual confessions as requested.)
  • Presides at communal celebrations of the Anointing of the Sick. (Available for individual anointing as requested.)
  • Presides at funeral Masses (usually during normal weekday schedule).
  • Participates in staff meetings, goal setting, calendar planning and departmental evaluation.
  • Collaborates and assists the Director in liturgical preparation and evaluation.
  • Maintains a relationship with the Diocese of Lansing through the Department of Liturgical Ministries.
  • Pursues opportunities for professional updating in liturgy and pastoral ministry.
  • Responds appropriately to safety hazards and/or emergencies following written campus procedures. Complies with all safety policies and procedures by practicing good safety and health habits while performing duties.
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Director of Liturgical Ministries.

Requirements:

Education: Graduate Degree (M.Div. or MA in Theology) associated with an approved priestly formation program for the Roman Catholic Church is required. Must be an ordained presbyter of the Roman Catholic Church and present a letter of good standing.

Experience: Previous pastoral experience with women religious preferred. Three to five years experience utilizing the skills and abilities listed below.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead prayer and serve the community through the ministry of liturgy.
  • Demonstrated preaching ability.
  • Ability to learn, integrate and actively appreciate the culture of the Adrian Dominican Sisters and the Dominican Family as Preachers of the Gospel, especially as related to the Season of Creation, inclusive language and participation, social justice teachings of the Church and the Congregation's Chapter vision and enactments.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Liturgy Documents, the Rites of the Church, and current resources in worship and ritual practice.
  • Must be able to work with a wide range of personality types and communicate with diplomacy and tact.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and pastoral skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with flexibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Physical:

  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • At times, it is necessary to move from location to location on campus.
  • Being sighted and capable of hearing.
  • Annual influenza vaccination is required for this position.

Working Conditions:

  • Adequate office and workspace, technological support and supplies provided.
  • 20 hours per week
  • Weekend work and some evenings required.
