The Secretariat for the Synod of Bishop has declared Sept. 28 a special day dedicated to prayers for Oct. 5-19 synod of bishops on the family, whose theme is “pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization.”

The secretariat, the Vatican-based organization group for the synod, is inviting churches, parishes, religious orders and other associations to include prayers for the synod in their Sunday Mass intentions as well as at other liturgical occasions in the days leading up to and during the synod, according to a release from the Vatican Information Service.

During the synod, the secretariat will host daily prayers for the synod on the family at the Chapel of Salus Populii Romani in the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome.

The Secretariat of the Synod plans on publishing a leaflet in various languages with the prayer of the Holy Family for the Synod, composed by Pope Francis and with other suggested intentions for the prayers of the faithful.

“The faithful, especially families, may include this intention in their personal prayers, and are recommended to pray the Rosary for the work of the Synod,” the notice from Vatican Information Service says.
