Global Sisters Report (GSR) seeks an editor and relationship-builder to help expand and strengthen our global network of Catholic sister contributors. Working closely with GSR's team of sister liaisons and editorial team, this part-time position — reserved for a Catholic sister — combines editing, writer development, recruitment and source-building across an international landscape.

This role is ideal for someone with significant international experience, exceptional editorial judgment, and a passion for mentoring writers whose primary language is not English. This International Columns Editor will help identify emerging stories, cultivate sister-columnists and sources, and amplify the voices of women religious around the world.

This position requires 20–25 hours per week and includes paid time off and an employer retirement contribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit and develop columns and commentaries from Catholic sisters, and mentor those writing in English as an additional language.
  • Recruit and cultivate sister-columnists, with particular attention to underrepresented regions and perspectives, and build and maintain relationships with congregations, sister networks and sources worldwide.
  • Review pitches and collaborate with GSR editors on coverage planning and special projects, helping identify story ideas, sources and trends related to religious life and other core GSR themes. (This entails attending two editorial meetings a week: Monday afternoon with the team of editors, and Tuesday morning with GSR staff.)
  • Write occasional blogs, interviews or trend pieces when opportunities arise.
  • Represent GSR at one or two international gatherings annually, including conferences of women religious and related events.

Qualifications

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills across cultures.
  • Full fluency in English required.
  • Familiarity with the ministries, challenges and evolving role of Catholic sisters in the church and society.
  • Extensive international experience and a strong understanding of global religious life.
  • Exceptional editing skills, particularly working with writers whose first language is not English.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor and develop writers and contributors.
  • Proficiency in French, Portuguese or Spanish is strongly preferred.
