Justice Promotor

The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati are searching for a partner to lead our Social Justice ministry for impact and influence. Reading the signs of the times calls for a courageous and consistent response to injustice and a steady commitment to transforming unjust social systems. RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supports and encourages the participation of Sisters of Charity and Associates in the wider efforts to bring about justice and peace through vibrant, active Justice Circles.
• Works as a resource for the Justice Circles as they discern and prioritize issues to be addressed.
• Promotes and participates in the initiatives of the Congregation resulting from the SC Chapter Directions, Congregational Stands, and the Laudato Si Action Platform Plan.
• Collaborates with the Justice Circle facilitators to deepen the Congregation’s commitment to working for systemic change.
• Collaborates with the Justice Circles and the SC Communications Office to communicate with internal and external audiences.
• Participates in coalitions and other collaborative learning and action opportunities, in partnership with Circle members and Congregational Leadership.
• Regularly convenes and meets with facilitators of the Justice Circles.
• Meets regularly with the SC Leadership Council liaison to this ministry.
• Plan and convene an annual gathering of all the Justice Circles, in collaboration with the Justice Circle facilitators.
• Participate in and collaborate with the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center in Cincinnati, as is possible.
• Assists Justice Circles as they widen their tents to engage with younger justice promoters such as with students at MSJU, for education and action.
• Prepares, submits and monitors the JPIC program budget.
• Works with the Justice Circle Facilitators and the Visioning Task Force to create the elements of an evolving structure for the ministry of JPIC by spring of 2023.
• Participates in ongoing professional development.
• Participates and collaborates with the SC Federation justice ministers.
• Travels locally, regionally, and nationally, as requested or agreed to by the Leadership Council.

EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree in ministry, religious studies, theology, diversity and equity or related field.
• A team player able to work collaboratively with SC Justice Circles to implement impactful justice and peace ministry of the Congregation.
• Works with the Visioning Task Force to continue evolving the key elements of this ministry: Justice Circles, developing relationships with collaborators—especially younger justice advocates.
• Embodies the core values of non-violent activism.
• Values the mission and charism of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.
• Possesses practical knowledge and experience of Catholic Social Teaching as one “thought model” for framing justice advocacy in light of the signs of the times.
• Demonstrates strong oral, social media, on-line meeting technology, and written
• communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Preferred: Master degree in social justice, diversity and equity, human rights, religious studies, ministry, community organizing or a related field.
• Three years related experience.
• Cross-cultural experience and intercultural competency.
