In this morning's Washington Post, a look at the anger against Wall Street that is found among both Democrats and Republicans. I know some of you do not share my disenchantment with President Obama, but keep in mind that his pollsters have been tracking this anger for eight years and they have not sought to channel it into meaningful reforms. So far, they are not even willing to take on the hedge funds that are raping Puerto Rico. Members of Congress from both parties will not drive issues that might curtail Wall Street, because they want the campaign cash Wall Street spreads around. I expect the GOP to be carrying water for big business, but the Democrats, starting with the President, have no excuse.
The March for Life on Friday has released the list of speakers. It is heavy on Republicans (Carly Fiorina?) and not a single U.S. bishop.
Next Monday, Catholic University's School of Theology and Religious Studies will host a lecture by Carlos Erie, professor of history and religious studies at Yale, as part of their Hispanic Innovators in the Faith lecture series. Last year, Bishop Daniel Flores of Brownsville gave a great talk. If you are in town, the event is at Noon, January 25, in the auditorium of Caldwell Hall. Click here for more information.
