Notre Dame's ACE program shows again that it is coming up with creative solutions to the otherwise intractable problems of education. In Memphis, they gave teachers a big raise AND switched to a year-round school schedule. So much of the news from America's inner cities is bad news. God Bless Notre Dame for bringing some good news. 

At New York Daily News, Cardinal Timothy Dolan takes on "The Donald" and his nativism. And, makes his mentor, Msgr. John Tracy Ellis, proud. We have seen this story before, as the cardinal points out, and it was ugly the first time around and has not gotten any prettier since the days of "Dagger John" Hughes was the archbishop of New York. 

From the "irresponsible journalism" file, the Drudge Report runs an item that asks if Pope Francis is the anti-Christ. The answer to that would be "no."

At the NYTimes, Ross Douthat on the Planned Parenthood controversy, in which he eviscerates the defenses of Planned Parenthood thusly:

And the problem these videos create for Planned Parenthood isn’t just a generalized queasiness at surgery and blood.

It’s a very specific disgust, informed by reason and experience — the reasoning that notes that it’s precisely a fetus’s humanity that makes its organs valuable, and the experience of recognizing one’s own children, on the ultrasound monitor and after, as something more than just “products of conception” or tissue for the knife.
