I just received this news bulletin from St. Bernard Parish, La., the parish I visited in June to cover the oil spill in the gulf. (See An 'undefined' future for the Gulf, which has links to all NCR Gulf of Mexico coverage.) It contains some good news. The red on the map shows the water closed to recreational fishing. The blue is the water that has been reopened.

State reopens recreational fishing in most of St. Bernard Parish waters

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission announced significant openings to recreational fishing as of Tuesday, July 14, 2010.

With this decision, 86 percent of recreational fishing in Louisiana will be open. It is advised that recreational fishermen avoid areas where oil is observed, respect oil cleanup and removal activities and stay clear of areas being protected by boom material.

Unfortunately, still no word yet about BP's latest attempt to cap the well.
