José Luis Castro Padilla holds a bachelor's degree in history from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and a master's degree in history from California State University, San Bernardino. He is pursuing a doctorate in Chicano/a and Central American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. As a historian, his research centers on Mexican immigrant and Mexican American Catholic communities in California, with an emphasis on cultural and religious perspectives.
