Thomas A. Tweed is professor emeritus of American Studies and history at the University of Notre Dame, where he held the Harold and Martha Welch Professorship of American Studies and was affiliated with Latino studies, peace studies, and the Ansari Institute for the Global Engagement with Religion.

Kathleen DuVal is a professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on early America, particularly how various Native American, European and African women and men interacted from the 16th through early 19th centuries.
