President Donald Trump has called for the development of more "small" nuclear weapons, about the size of what we dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He wants to push the research and development Congress authorized in the exchange for ratification of President Barack Obama's New START Treaty with Russia in 2010.

We are talking about a lot of money here, somewhere between $1 trillion and $2 trillion.

I wrote a piece for Global Sisters Report two years ago about what we are actually making in our nuclear labs, what the cost is, and some of the groups that resist nuclear weapons.

I'm reminded that Pope Paul VI told us that not only do weapons threaten life, but the resources used in their manufacture are a theft against the poor.

I'll stop here. But if you want some understanding about our nuclear arsenal, The New York Times article I link above and my own piece in Global Sisters Report are places to start.
