Chilean Catholics are training clerics and parishioners in abuse prevention and counseling victims, but not just abuse in church settings.
Chile's bishops acknowledged they had "failed to fulfill our duty by not listening, believing, attending or accompanying the victims of grave sins" after a five-day meeting to discuss the clergy sexual abuse crisis.
"My dream is that from this crisis, we are able to learn and renew the church, I want the laity in Chile to help to make a new, better church."
Around 20,000 Venezuelans have arrived in Chile this year; the vast majority of them say they are fleeing the political crisis in their country in search of a better life.
