Teach-In on Syria

There will be a "Teach-In" at Catholic University next Wednesday, September 18, at 3. p.m., in Great Room B in the campus' s Pryzbyla Center.  The event is being sponsored by CUA's Peace and Justice Studies Program and the Institute for Policy Research and Catholic Studies.  The list of speakers includes Marie Dennis from Pax Christi International, Stephen Colecchi, Director of International Justice & Peace Office at the USCCB, Antonio Perez  from CUA's Columbus School of Law, Richard Love from the National Defense University, and Maryann Cusimano Love, a prolific writer and professor in CUA Department of Politics.  Among the topics to be addressed are the history of the Syrian conflict, Syria's use of chemical weapons, the case for  a U.S.-led humanitarian intervention, the international legal aspects and the "Responsibility to Protect,"  the domestic and international political landscape here in the U.S., non-violent alternatives to military action, the exploding  refugee population and humanitarian crisis, and the stance of the Catholic Church in relation to all these issues.
 

The event is free and open to the public and is expected to last two hours. No need for bell-bottomed jeans - our sense of style, and well as our scholarship on these difficult issues, have come a long way since the Teach-In's of the '60s.
