This week marks the 85th anniversary of the Catholic Worker movement. A friend of the movement, peace activist and Jesuit priest Daniel Berrigan died April 30, 2016. His life is explored in a new biography and memoir, At Play in the Lions' Den: A Biography and Memoir of Daniel Berrigan, published by Orbis Books.
On the show today:
- Since 1933, a decentralized approach has led Catholic Worker communities to carry out a variety of ministries that are limited only by members' interests, resources and creativity.
- In April, Midwest Catholic Workers held a retreat and pipeline protest.
- Those who want to read one book on Daniel Berrigan ought to look no further than At Play in the Lions' Den, says one reviewer.
- Tom Roberts profiled Dan Berrigan for NCR in 1996.
Visit EarthBeat, NCR's new reporting project that explores the ways Catholics and other faith groups are taking action on the climate crisis.
