Shannon Evans has been named the new Spirituality and Culture editor at the National Catholic Reporter.
Shannon Evans has been named the new Spirituality and Culture editor at the National Catholic Reporter, where she will be responsible for content for the two sections of the newly redesigned website. Evans previously served as NCR's social media editor.
"Over the past two years, NCR has improved its coverage of popular culture, and I look forward to Shannon doing even more with that section, especially working with diverse contributors," said Heidi Schlumpf, executive editor and vice president. "In addition, Shannon's background and expertise in spiritual writing will help us strengthen our spiritual content."

Evans is the author of four books: Luminous: A 30-day Journal for Accepting Your Body; Honoring Your Soul, and Finding Your Joy; Rewilding Motherhood: Your Path to an Empowered Feminine Spirituality; Embracing Weakness: The Unlikely Secret to Changing the World; and Bearing Light, an Advent devotional.
She previously worked as a social media editor for Franciscan Media and has written for America, U.S. Catholic, St. Anthony Messenger and the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the U.S. She is a popular speaker at conferences and retreats.
"I really believe in NCR's mission and I look forward to helping to attract more readers to our publications," Evans said. "There are so many imaginative ways to explore our Catholic tradition through NCR's unique lens."

Evans joined NCR in 2021 as social media editor. During her tenure, the publication increased social media engagement for NCR, EarthBeat and Global Sisters Report and launched NCR's TikTok account, one of the first by a Catholic publication. Shannon and her partner are raising their five children in central Iowa. She will begin her new position after a new social media editor is hired.
